A NOT SO CONCOCTED CONVERSATION: DONATING BLOOD
I want to start donating blood in honor of my dad, because he was a huge supporter of it. Before he passed, he was just one pint short of having donated a gallon. Last year, I found a blood center in Burbank and called to setup an appointment.
NURSE: Are you eligible to donate?
ME: I think so. I did some traveling in the past year though.
NURSE: Where did you go?
ME: Well, I went to China…
NURSE: Ok.
ME: Thailand, India…
NURSE: India? Oh, no way.
ME: What?
NURSE: There’s no way you can donate. You have to wait a full year from the date you left India. Where else did you go?
ME: South Africa.
NURSE: Really? Wow. Yeah, there’s no way. Where else?
ME: Um, Cape Verde.
NURSE: Ooo where’s that?
ME: It’s a small chain of islands off the coast of Africa.
NURSE: Africa? Are you kidding? Yeah, there’s no way.
ME: So I guess I should just hang up.
NURSE: Can you tell me what India was like first?
